He has successfully helped patients from over 20 countries, with some flying to Singapore specially to consult him specifically for non-invasive solutions and to avoid surgery. He is accredited with both the Family Physician Accreditation Board and the Singapore Medical Council. He is also a member of the Singapore Medical Association and The Pain Association of Singapore. Dr Tan has delivered numerous public education talks and has taught doctors internationally on pain management.

Before Consultation

  • Unsure what’s wrong
  • Pain keeps returning
  • Confusing or conflicting advice
  • Spending on temporary relief

After Consultation

  • Clear understanding of your condition
  • Imaging reviewed with you
  • Targeted non-invasive options
  • Confidence about next steps

Modern Medical Technology for Faster, Targeted Pain Treatment

Today, treatment for pain has advanced far beyond massage, stretching, and medication. We use a range of non-invasive technologies to stimulate healing and support recovery — based on proper diagnosis.

Example: Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy delivers focused acoustic waves into injured or inflamed tissue to help improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and stimulate tissue repair. It’s non-invasive and designed to fit daily life with minimal downtime.

Shockwave is only one of the technologies we may use. A consultation helps determine which technology is most appropriate for your condition.

The Importance Of Imaging Scans For Correct Treatment

When simple first steps (rest, activity modification, basic therapy) don’t work — or when symptoms are severe or persist — imaging helps confirm the diagnosis, guide the right treatment, and rule out dangerous problems early.

X-ray

  • Shows bones and joint spaces quickly.
  • Useful to detect fractures, alignment issues, and arthritis changes.
  • First-line when there is trauma, deformity, or pain that limits weight-bearing.

Ultrasound

  • Dynamic, bedside view of tendons, ligaments, and fluid.
  • Helps identify tears, bursitis, and inflammation; guides targeted injections if needed.
  • No radiation; useful for shoulders, ankles, knees, elbows, and soft-tissue lumps.

MRI Scans @ under $1000

MRI provides the most detailed view of soft tissues, cartilage, discs, nerves, bone marrow, and hidden injuries. It is especially valuable when symptoms are severe, neurological (numbness, weakness), or persist despite conservative care.

  • Detects meniscus and labral tears, rotator cuff tears, stress fractures, and early osteoarthritis.
  • Helps evaluate spinal disc problems, nerve compression, and bone marrow changes.
  • Can identify infection (e.g., osteomyelitis, septic arthritis) and, when suspected, screen for tumours or cancer spread.

Your doctor will recommend the most appropriate scan for your symptoms and history. Not everyone needs an MRI, but when indicated it prevents guesswork and speeds up the right care. Some people delay doing an MRI because of the potentially high cost of over $1000. We keep the cost of an MRI for most standard conditions (knee, neck, back and shoulder MRI) at under $1000. Insurance, Company Flexi-Benefits & Medisave can also help with the cost.

When Do Scans Matter Most?

  • Pain after a fall/accident, inability to bear weight, visible deformity (concern for fracture).
  • Severe night pain, fever, redness, warmth, or feeling unwell (rule out infection).
  • Red-flag symptoms: unexplained weight loss, history of cancer, or pain not improving (consider serious causes).
  • Persistent or worsening pain despite rest and basic therapy (confirm tears, cartilage damage, or other correctable issues).
Scans reduce uncertainty, avoid months of ineffective treatment, and ensure dangerous conditions aren’t missed.

Already Did a Scan — But Still Confused?

In Singapore, imaging should be done at licensed medical facilities and include an official radiologist’s report. Always request the formal report and compare it with what you were told. If unclear, review it with a doctor — or redact personal information and use a service like ChatGPT to help interpret terminology.

If your imaging was tied to an accident or travel insurance claim, do not delay. Some policies have short claim windows, and waiting may result in reduced or rejected claims.

Short on Time? We Make It Simple

You May Qualify For Low Cash and Cashless Treatments

Medisave

For certain outpatient musculoskeletal conditions under MOH frameworks, Medisave may potentially cover up to 85% of approved costs (typical co-pay about 15%), subject to limits and eligibility.

Insurance & Company Benefits

Depending on your policy, Personal Accident and Travel Insurance may reimburse medical costs (including scans, consultations and therapy). Corporate wellness benefits which expire yearly may also be used. Many people assume claims are only for emergencies — but if you receive medical treatment, check your policy early to avoid missing time limits. Many patients pay $0 out of pocket. If needed, interest-free installment plans are also available.

The Risk of Inaction

Clinical Consequences

  • Pain becomes harder to treat
  • Higher chance of needing surgery later
  • Weakness, stiffness, reduced mobility
  • Risk of falls or larger injuries

Financial & Life

  • More money spent on temporary relief
  • Time lost from work, family, travel
  • Sleep, mood, and confidence affected
  • Social life, sports and independence reduced

Many patients tell us they waited too long — and missed months of sports, travel, or family activities. Early treatment is usually simpler, faster, and more affordable than waiting.

Smart, Affordable & Financially Safe Medical Care

Medical treatment shouldn’t feel like an expensive gamble. Many patients spend hundreds or thousands on temporary relief — weekly massages, repeated therapy, painkillers, supplements — yet the pain returns because the underlying cause was never diagnosed or medically treated.

A $50 medical consultation gives you clarity:

  • Examination of the painful area
  • Review of your scans or reports (if you have them)
  • Clear explanation of what’s happening
  • A medical plan that makes sense — not guesswork
“I wish I had come sooner — it would have saved me so much time and money.”
“I finally understand what’s really going on.”

When pain worsens, costs can escalate (more time off work, more repeated treatments, sometimes more complex care). Early diagnosis is usually simpler, easier, and more affordable. A $50 consult is often less than one massage — and gives answers.

And if treatment is needed? Medisave or insurance may cover part or all of costs depending on medical need and policy terms. Fees are explained before anything is done — no hidden surprises. You might qualify to pay $0 out of pocket and interest-free installment plans are also available.

Many patients tell us the clarity alone was worth the visit — even if they chose not to proceed with treatment.

A $50 Consultation Is Often Less Than One Massage — But Gives You Answers

Many people spend $80–$120 on weekly massage or therapy sessions that feel good but don’t fix the problem. A doctor-led, diagnosis-first consultation gives you medical clarity:

What You’ll Get

  • Examination of the painful area
  • Explanation of what the scan shows
  • Discussion of the root cause
  • Whether treatment is actually needed (and which type)
  • Whether Medisave / insurance may apply

Even If You Don’t Proceed

  • Clearer understanding of your condition
  • Radiology terms explained in plain English
  • Practical medical advice you can use anywhere
  • A plan you can act on — not guesswork
Many patients tell us this step alone prevented months of repeated, temporary treatments — and helped them use Medisave or insurance (when appropriate) to cover part or all of their medical costs.
